Goodyear are one of the largest manufacturers of tyres, and when they required a new fleet of commercial vehicles they made tracks straight to Mercedes-Benz due to their renowned reliability and quality of vehicles.

The 20 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 313CDIs were supplied by Birmingham dealer Midlands Truck & Van and work for TruckForce, Goodyear Dunlop’s dedicated mobile truck tyre and breakdown service and this is seen as a major promotion for Mercedes Benz due to a Large company (Goodyear) choosing a large fleet of their vehicles.

They are based across Truck Force’s 15 operating centers, which act as hubs for some 100 satellite depots across England and Wales, and used by technicians who repair, replace and service customers’ tyres at their premises or at the roadside.

The Sprinters are fitted with engine-driven PTOs which power on-board compressors, as well as Hope Safe-T-bar rear safety bumpers and roof-mounted flashing beacons. They have replaced a fleet of similar-sized vehicles by another manufacturer.

Isis Insurance Services a specialist motor trade insurance broker has noted that following the increase in new vehicle sales and Audi showing a profit for the first quarter of this year, the Mon Motor Group has opened an £11m Audi centre on the outskirts of Bristol which will be overlooking the M5 and will have the showroom capacity for 24 vehicles and workshop space for 24 cars, this will be a exceptional Motor Trade showroom.

Bristol Audi, a joint development with Audi UK (Motortrade), is the 13th dealership in the Mon Motors Group, and Managing director Gavin Cleverly said the group’s business strategy was to concentrate on strong brands. It now represents Audi, VW, Skoda and Ford.

“This gives us economy of scale and means we can give focus to a brand over a number of different outlets to satisfy customers over a wider base,” said Cleverly.

“For now it’s about getting Bristol up and running but if another opportunity arose we would look at it as this generates income but also Jobs for the surrounding areas,” he added.

The motor group, which also has Audi dealerships in Cardiff and Bath will be expecting further expansion and this will contribute to the growth within Audi, but will also offer jobs and income within the area.

Isis Insurance a specialist HGV and fleet insurance broker has noticed a recent article in the industry magazine Insurance Times which highlights some of the issues facing the fleet insurance market.

The article points out that last year’s Department of Transport vehicle licensing statistics showed that the number of company owned cars fell by almost 4.5% while new registrations plunged 21%. The effect of the economic crisis along with the recently announced increase in VAT from next January is likely to ensure that the decline in size of commercial fleets continues. (more…)
