Travel over the festive period will be made much easier due to the Highways Agency plan to complete more than 500 miles of road words on major UK routes this week.

In addition 60 miles of road works will be suspended over the Christmas period between 23^rd December and 3rd January. (more…)

Isis Insurance services, a leading truck insurance broker has noted a recent comment from the Freight Transport Association (FTA) that it is urging the Government to look long and hard at the recommendations made in the Transport Select Committee’s (TSC) report Out of the Jam: Reducing Congestion on our Roads.  The leading trade body, whose views on the ‘patchiness’ of available road traffic information were included in the report, welcomes the TSC’s recommendations to fill gaps in information for freight operators.

In July this year, UK car manufacturing rose 1.3%, and over the course of the first seven months, has risen 3.7%. Engine production in the UK remained consistent, dropping only slightly in July by 0.4% and is up 4.0% for the year-to-date.

Many new vehicles now arrive with free servicing some until a car is 5 years. Some manufacturers are so confident of the build quality of their vehicles that they have extended this to 7 years.

A recent report has highlighted that more than half of businesses are unprepared for having employees working beyond the traditional retirement age of 65. The default retirement age will be abolished this autumn, with businesses no longer able to force staff to retire on their 65th birthday due to age alone.

The new M74 motorway extension is now open and it is expected it will generate as many as 20,000 jobs for the Scottish economy according to Cabinet Secretary Alex Neil speaking at last month’s opening of the improved transport link, built between £15-£20 million under budget and which supported 900 jobs during its three year construction.
