The goods in transit insurance element of any haulier or couriers insurance cover is vitally important in view of the quantity and value of the goods which are at risk whilst being carried in vehicles.

As with most forms of cover goods in transit insurance comes in many shapes and sizes and customers will operate under different conditions of carriage dependant on the type of goods carried and also the journey undertaken.

Many hauliers will carry loads under the Road Haulage Association (RHA) conditions, and if goods are carried outside the UK into Europe, or if they begin their journey into the UK from Europe then these goods will possible need to be covered under the CMR convention.

However, hauliers or couriers with smaller vehicles operating within the UK only and requiring goods in transit cover for smaller loads may simply operate under what is termed “full responsibility” cover.

Cover under each of the different options is clearly defined but most customers will require some specialist advice to ensure that the cover arranged is suitable for their individual needs.
